In my new book, 'The Art and Soul of Journaling: Seven Steps to Greater Intimacy with God'
I begin in Chapter One how to take the first key step in your journaling experience.
Connect: Make Time and Space for You and God
“But put God’s kingdom first. Do what he wants you to do. Then all those things will also be given to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NIRV)
My Story: (Partial Excerpt from Chapter 1)
God I need Help! As I was growing up, my Christian upbringing was truly foundational. However, because of an older brother who had special needs, and not knowing how to cope with all the family dynamics that come along with that, by High School...
I became empty inside. I was unable to change the inner turmoil I had known for so long, when anger and depression, surfaced. I felt powerless. I couldn’t understand after giving my life to God, why everything became worse, within my soul. And a fierce battle over took me, in my mind.
The Apostle Paul describes this battle in the following verse:
“I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind.” Romans 7:21-23 (NLT)
Can you relate to what Paul is writing about in the above verse?
Are you experiencing a battle like this in your own mind?
See the 'Activity' below, find a comfortable place where you can write some of your own thoughts down in your journal, and let's begin the beautiful journey of journaling now!
Activity:
Put pen to paper and start writing in your journal to begin the process of connecting with God. Share about your upbringing and some of the battles you faced.
